Ward 2 candidate hopes to help residents with issues

Innisfil resident hopes to help with traffic safety and internet connectivity if elected Ward 2 councillor this fall

Anil Dutta is running for Ward 2 councillor in Innisfil this fall.

Having moved to the community a few years ago, Anil Dutta has been connecting with and listening to residents in the community which has motivated him to run for the Ward 2 councillor position this fall.

After hearing from residents about the things they want for the community and the issues they’re worried about, Dutta figured he could be the person to achieve these goals for them.

“I moved here about four years back and I’ve been talking to people,” he said. “There’s a young generation here and they’ve told me about the issues. We need more safety, a splash pad for kids in the park, and we need a walk-in plaza, corner store, or a coffee shop. That’s what has pushed me to run for this position.”

As someone who makes a point to get out in the community, Dutta says he always takes the time to hear from Innisfil residents.

“It’s very important because I’m a public figure,” he said. “If I’m out on a walk, I say hello to everyone and talk to everyone. I’m involved with the Conservative Party, so since 2006 I’ve been volunteering with them and that’s why I like to talk to people and get their views. The people want change because right now they’re worried nothing is being done in Innisfil.”

If elected in Ward 2, the first thing on Dutta’s agenda is to upgrade the traffic light system in town.

“The first thing that needs to be prioritized is road safety,” he said. “That’s what I see and what I’ve heard needs improvement."

In particular he would like to see more advanced green lights and censors on lights to help with the flow of traffic.

"They have put up a very poor traffic light system in Innisfil," he said.

With more people working from home, Dutta would like to ensure better internet connectivity.

“We have a big issue with internet connectivity and telephone connectivity in Innisfil,” he explained. “I talked to some people from Bell, and we need new towers put in.”

Hearing from residents about their issues going unanswered, Dutta hopes to be the person who can get the issues resolved.

“I stepped up because when I go out and talk to people, they all have issues and nobody is there to help them,” he said. "So, I want to take the residents issues to town hall and find complete solutions for them.”

Election day is Oct.24.
