There’s never been a better time than now to bring back Neighbourhood Watch, Citizens on Patrol, and Block Parent.

The crime rate in our city has increased in the past few years. For example, people I know don’t feel safe in their neighbourhood and recently had a break-in, which puts whole families at risk. We need to stand up and take back our city. This is where Neighbourhood Watch comes into play.

Neighbourhood Watch is where whole communities come together to organize meetings, co-ordinating with law enforcement to increase safety and reduce crime in our city.

In the first place, in the past, Neighbourhood Watch programs have been proven to not only cut the crime rate but also strengthen bonds between neighbours and raise community spirit. In fact, this comes in handy in times of need as well.

Furthermore, with increased vigilance, our city will be a safer place to live, especially for those who either can’t afford or don’t want to move to another city and more vulnerable citizens like the elderly. Also, with modern technology, we can provide authorities with proof in prosecution of criminals. In addition, Neighbourhood Watch can also be used for business districts such as downtown.

Another form of crime watch takes the form of the Block Parent program, only we shall call it ‘safe house’ so it’s a place that all ages can go to in case of trouble and it can be used for not just residences but places previously used for warming/cooling centres (churches, rec centres, etc.).

Finally, another form of crime watch is Citizens on Patrol.

Any of these forms of crime watch has and will reduce the crime rate and make our city safe for everyone day and night.

That’s why Neighbourhood Watch is due for a comeback.
