Students and staff at Angus Morrison Elementary School are back in the classroom this afternoon after having been evacuated by police, but there are limited details about what led to the decision to clear the school.

The Angus school, located about 20 minutes west of Barrie, was initially placed in a hold-and-secure at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3 by Nottawasaga OPP, during which time activities continue inside the building, but all exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed to enter or exit the school.

At around 1 p.m., the school was evacuated by police.

Sarah Kekewich, the Simcoe County District School Board’s manager of communications, told BarrieToday via telephone that the school was evacuated at the direction of the police, but that as of 1:25 p.m., students and staff were being allowed back into the school building.

“We are going to be sending a letter directly home to parents to give them those details,” she said.

A tweet by Central Region OPP confirmed the hold-and-secure has been lifted and that the school was resuming with regular rest of school day and student pick up procedures. It also indicated there was no threat to safety, however no other details were shared.

Provincial police say more information will be included in a news release.
