There’s no need to fight the bad weather tomorrow night.

The Town of Innisfil’s Feb. 12 council meeting is going fully virtual in anticipation of the significant winter storm forecast for the area.

It’s a busy agenda Wednesday night, too, with councillors scheduled to discuss several items, including the ward boundary review, a fleet feasibility study, a sports field allocation policy and development charges. The heritage advisory committee is also slated to give an annual update.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. A full agenda is posted on innisfil.civicweb.net.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the region beginning late tomorrow afternoon and carrying into Thursday morning. A total snowfall amount of 15 to 25 centimetres is expected. Peak snowfall rates could range from two to four centimetres per hour, and there will be poor visibility in heavy snow.

“A major winter storm will likely affect portions of southern and northeastern Ontario, bringing significant snowfall,” the weather agency said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “The track of the low pressure system responsible is still somewhat uncertain which will affect exact snowfall amounts. Avoid travel if possible. If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone.”

Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult and there may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Snow may mix with ice pellets Thursday morning, Environment Canada says.

Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get a kit for their vehicle with drinking water, food, medicine, first-aid supplies and a flashlight, Environment Canada added.

This is the second time in the last few weeks that bad weather has forced the town to move its council meeting to an online-only format.
