Canco can serve: New gas station opens at familiar Innisfil site

Company set to fill up the space left vacant when long-time Pioneer station closed recently

Canco will operate the gas station at the southwest corner of the Innisfil Beach Road and Yonge Street intersection.

The operators of a new gasoline station are pumped to turn their business into the next landmark on the way into Alcona.

And with its bright orange and blue facade, Canco Gas and One Stop Convenience may already be well on its way to doing so. Canco, which opened its doors and pumps to residents Thursday, March 28, fills the space left vacant when the long-time Pioneer station on the southwest corner of the Innisfil Beach Road and Yonge Street intersection closed several weeks ago.

“We are thrilled to become part of the Innisfil community,” Canco Petroleum regional area manager Janek Maternicki said. “Our expansion in Ontario, and specifically in Innisfil, allows us to serve a broader customer base and contribute to the local economy.”

Canco launched in Kamloops, B.C. in 2016, expanding to Ontario in 2022. Last year, the company opened its 100th location, and it is part of Kelowna, B.C.-based PR Petroleum.

“We are known for our high-quality fuels sourced from Canadian refineries, and a range of convenience items,” Maternicki said.

There are plans in place to redevelop the property — officially known as 7364 Yonge St. and 2241 and 2229 Innisfil Beach Rd. — which currently consists of the station, store, two single-detached homes and vacant land, states a recent Town of Innisfil staff report. However, the property owner has yet to submit a site plan to the municipality.

Reconstruction is proposed to happen over two phases, resulting in two drive-thru restaurants and a tunnel car wash being added. A rendering and map of the proposal also show the footprint of the gas station and convenience store would remain largely unchanged.

“This property obtained a council approval for an Official Plan amendment and zoning bylaw amendment in 2023 to permit the expansion of the existing highway commercial development consisting of a gas station, convenience store and restaurant uses,” town planning and growth director Andria Leigh said recently. “Future redevelopment is subject to site plan approval.”

Canco also offers a loyalty program to customers.

“We believe in putting people first and operating with honesty, integrity, and excellence,” Maternicki said. “We look forward to serving the residents of Innisfil and becoming a part of this vibrant community. As Innisfil continues to grow, we are excited to grow with it.”
