Barrie has plenty of events and activities happening this Family Day weekend. Here’s what residents need to know:
Family Day weekend events and programs:
- The City of Barrie is hosting its 10th annual Family Day Winter Adventure on Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Barrie Community Sports Complex (2100 Nursery Rd., Midhurst). The event is free and offers an opportunity for families to be active together outdoors. Activities will include horse-drawn wagon rides, crafts, broomball, axe throwing, a bonfire warming zone, circus and fire performers at 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Visit barrie.ca/FamilyDay for more information.
- There is plenty of indoor fun available with a full schedule of drop-in activities taking place at the city’s recreation/community centres, including public skates and swims, available via barrie.ca/RecDropIns. All three centres will be open regular operating hours on Feb. 17.
- Residents are encouraged to get out and experience the beauty of Barrie as a winter city at the Nature in Winter event at Sunnidale Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15. Join wildlife enthusiast Jason George for an engaging and interactive presentation, check out the Barrie Public Library’s Library of Things, and take part in forest bathing with Beth. As well, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority, artist Monica Loney, and Nature Barrie will offer a variety of activities for attendees. You can also stay cozy by the fire while exploring the Nature Play Trailer.
- Hello Winter programming is happening throughout February. Participate in the outdoor, arts, culture and community events going on all month.
Family Day affected services:
- City hall will be closed Monday, Feb. 17.
- Barrie Transit will operate according to a Sunday service schedule on Feb. 17. Riders are encouraged to visit MyRideBarrie.ca to plan their trips.
Reminders:
- Curbside collection: There will be no change to waste collection on Family Day in Barrie. Collection during the week of this holiday will occur as regularly scheduled for the week. Visit barrie.ca/CurbsideCollection for more information on curbside collection services.
