Sponsors, team captains, and walkers are needed for the fifth annual Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser, so come take a walk with S.H.I.F.T. (Support and Hope for Individuals and Families Today) on Feb. 24 and help people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in our communities.
On Feb. 24, thousands of people will take to the streets for the annual Coldest Night of the Year walk, Canada-wide, in support of local charities raising funds for the unhoused, food insecure and hurt.
Since 2011, the Coldest Night of the Year has raised more than $96 million across Canada in 166 communities.
“Last year we raised over $163,000 to support our programs and services,” said Candace Gordon, donor relations and stewardship officer for S.H.I.F.T.
“S.H.I.F.T. moved to year-round operations on Sept. 1, 2023, and we maintain our goal to support individuals, couples, and families in making a shift for good in their circumstances through the vital shelter, drop-in and outreach services and programs offered daily by S.H.I.F.T. throughout south Simcoe.”
Gordon is asking that the south Simcoe and surrounding areas come together to warm some hearts this winter by joining S.H.I.F.T., and the hundreds of others, at this family-friendly winterrific event as walkers, team captains, volunteers, donors, or sponsors.
“We have a role for everyone,” she says.
“This year, we have a goal of raising $150,000 for our year-round programs and services, and we hope to achieve that goal to ensure the funding of our programs and services.”
She said that no donation is ever too small and can add up rather quickly and with donations down over the last year, they hope to achieve their goal.
The family-friendly walk (two or or five kilometres) is where generous community members come together to fundraise, walk, and gather to raise awareness. All proceeds raised directly benefit S.H.I.F.T.’s vital programs and services.
Walkers will register by 4:30 p.m. and will be hitting the streets at 5 p.m., from the Alliston Memorial Arena, located at 49 Nelson St. W., in Alliston.
After the event, attendees will gather inside the arena for a selection of food and beverages, entertainment, an auction and more.
“It’s a must-attend event,” says Gordon.
S.H.I.F.T. has been serving south Simcoe for over seven years, and the funds raised in the Coldest Night of the Year will benefit their clients with the programs, support and services that are needed.
