Cookstown hosted a day-long festive event Saturday starting with photos with Santa, a Christmas Market in the afternoon through the evening and the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, followed by the Santa Claus Parade along Queen Street.
Cryer Sean Derraugh kicked off the evening's event by reciting a proclamation, then Mayor Dollin with the assistance of Ward 7 Councillor Fred Drodge plugged in the cord and lit up the Christmas tree, powered by electricity provided by the Innisfil Masonic Lodge next door on Queen Street.
The parade kicked off at 6:30 p.m. with more than 20 floats headed eastward delivering colourful displays from community organizations and businesses.
