The Innisfil Indian Association is thrilled to announce the launch of a week-long food drive in partnership with the Innisfil Food Bank, coinciding with their annual Diwali Utsav celebration. This year’s theme, “Light the Way by Giving Back!”, embodies the spirit of Diwali by encouraging generosity and support for the community’s most vulnerable

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is traditionally a time to spread joy, positivity, and light. The Association invites all attendees of the Diwali Utsav event to help illuminate the lives of others by contributing non-perishable food items to the Innisfil Food Bank. This initiative aims to combat food insecurity in the region and make a tangible impact on the lives of those in need.

Top 10 Most Needed Items for Donation:

  1. Canned Soup
  2. Canned Pasta
  3. Peanut Butter
  4. Pasta Sauce
  5. Pancake Mix
  6. Pancake Syrup
  7. Canned Tuna or Salmon
  8. Juice
  9. Peanut-Free School Snacks
  10. Canned Veggies & Lentils

Guests attending the Diwali Utsav on October 20, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM at the Churchill Community Centre are encouraged to bring one or more of these items to support the food drive. In addition, those unable to attend the event but wishing to contribute can arrange a doorstep pick-up by contacting the Innisfil Indian Association.

“This Diwali, we want to not only celebrate but also give back to the community that supports us,” said Loki, President of the Innisfil Indian Association. “We believe that by coming together, we can spread light and hope to those facing difficult times. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a big difference in someone’s life.”

The food drive will run from Oct. 14 to 21, concluding with the vibrant Diwali Utsav event featuring cultural dances, music, food, and fireworks. The event serves as a reminder that Diwali is not only about illuminating our own lives but also about extending a hand to help others.
