Four event you have to check out in South Simcoe this weekend

While there's a health and wellness fair and lots of planned family activities to enjoy this weekend, two great tobogganing hills should be in great shape, editor says

I’m not much of a winter person.

When the temperatures dip, I prefer to get caught up on shows or bury myself in a video game until spring arrives. However, the one cold-weather activity I do enjoy is tobogganing. Luckily, there are a couple of great hills in South Simcoe that always give us a thrill. If you haven’t done so yet, head out to Innisfil Beach Park or Bradford’s renowned Deadman's Hill behind St. Jean de Brebeuf Separate School.

Of course, there are plenty of planned activities in the area, too. Here’s what’s happening in South Simcoe in the coming days:

Drop-in family storytime

Join staff at the Lakeshore branch of the Innisfil ideaLAB and Library (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) Saturday, Jan. 11 for the next instalment of this weekly family event. Expect an hour of stories, songs, crafts and playtime. Get to know other families in your community while nurturing your child's love of books and reading. All ages are welcome, though it is considered most suitable for kids six and under. This event is free, it runs from 10 to 11 a.m. and no registration is required.

Help raise the flag for Tamil Heritage Month

The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, together with the Bradford Tamil Association, will host a flag-raising ceremony outside the BWG Leisure Centre (471 West Park Ave.) Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. The proclamation of the month aims to honour Tamil heritage, including its rich history, language and traditions. The association is a registered non-profit corporation dedicated to fostering a sense of community and cultural connection among the Tamil population in Bradford, and it actively engages in community development initiatives, cultural events, and educational programs.

A Playapalooza adventure

The Innisfil library’s Lakeshore branch will host Playapalooza on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. From hands-on crafts and engaging STEAM activities to family movies and games, an adventure is waiting to unfold. All ages are welcome to this free event. No registration is required.

Health and wellness fair

The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library (425 Holland St. W.) will host the Health and Wellness Fair and Open Mic Café Sunday, Jan. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet life and grief coaches, nutritionists, a yoga expert and an herbalist, among others. You can also discover local businesses, and enjoy healthy snacks and drinks. This is presented in partnership with the BWG Diversity Action Group. For more information, email [email protected].
