There’s some fun, fundraising and forward thinking happening in Bradford and Innisfil over the next few days.
Here's where you can grab yourself a stack of hotcakes, help a local pet shop raise some money for two worthy causes, play a pickup game of ice hockey or learn a little more about a heated conflict happening half a world away:
Parent and child shinny
Kids nine years old and younger and their parents or guardians are invited to an informal game of hockey at the BWG Leisure Centre (471 West Park Ave.) Saturday, June 15 (7:15 a.m.) and Sunday, June 16 (10 a.m.). You must wear skates or ride a sledge to be allowed on the ice surface. The program ratio is one parent to a maximum of five children. Slap shots are not permitted. Community Pancake Breakfast
The Stroud Volunteer Firefighters Association is hosting this annual event at Innisfil Fire Station 3 (2394 Victoria St.) on Saturday. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee and milk will be served. Enjoy the food, tour a truck and take home some fire safety material. The event runs from 8 to 11 a.m.
Step into the cage
You’re invited to a battle for the ages Saturday. Pet Valu’s Cage Match 2024: Cat vs Dog will help raise money for the Georgina Feral Cat Committee and Project Paws Dog Rescue. A representative from each organization will be in a dog crate, waiting for you to ‘bail’ them out. This event takes place at the store at 442 Holland St. W. and it runs from 10 a.m. to noon.
Promoting understanding in the Middle East
Two workshops that will discuss the issue of anti-Palestinian racism are being held Saturday in the Jamal Pascall Room at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library (425 Holland St. W.). The sessions will be run by Dalia El Farra — who has extensive experience in building diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives — and they’re planned for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is a resident-led initiative. More details can be found on the library's website, bradford.library.on.ca.
