Innisfil hosting open house over Orbit's draft stormwater plan

Goal of the plan is to find sustainable solutions that balance environmental impact with cost-effectiveness within the development site, says town

You’ll want into this meeting’s rotation.

On Dec. 4, the Town of Innisfil will host an open house for the draft Orbit Stormwater Master Servicing Plan. The municipality, through Aquafor Beech Limited, is creating the document to cover the first two phases of this significant proposed development.

At the open house, residents will be able to see the current environmental and stormwater conditions at the project site, learn about next steps and share their knowledge of the area.

“The objective of this plan is to develop a preferred approach to provide the appropriate stormwater infrastructure required to support the Orbit development,” the town says. “This fall, we will introduce the project to the community and look for initial comments and feedback.”

This study will integrate the findings of the South Alcona Flood Reduction Class Environmental Assessment from March 2020, and build upon the Innisfil Stormwater Management Master Plan Update and Flooding Strategy from earlier this year.

Ultimately, the plan will identify and prioritize areas of concern to address stormwater-related issues, and find sustainable solutions that balance environmental impact with cost-effectiveness within the proposed development site.

The meeting takes place in the community rooms at town hall (2101 Innisfil Beach Rd.) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Staff and consultants will be available to receive comments and answer questions.

Orbit is planned to be a high-density, transit-oriented community built around the proposed Innisfil GO Transit station near the 6th Line, east of the 20th Sideroad.

The entire site is more than 800 hectares in size and the town estimates that, by the time it is fully built out in 30 years, Orbit will include a population of 90,000 people, as well as 20,000 job opportunities.

Innisfil approved a secondary plan for the site earlier this year.
