Barrie-Innisfil Member of Parliament John Brassard is once again recognizing local secondary school graduates by presenting $200 scholarships at all eight area high schools.

The scholarships, personally funded each year by Brassard and his wife, Liane, support students who plan to study political science, Canadian history or civics at college or university.

The program was established in 2010 when Brassard was a Barrie city councillor, with the hope of encouraging young Canadians who are engaged in the political process and pursuing a career in public service.

"Liane and I believe it is important to invest in the education of passionate young individuals who will drive positive change in our communities and our nation,” Brassard said. “Through these scholarships, we hope to encourage young Canadians to pursue their passions and take an active role in shaping the future of our country.”

Scholarships will be awarded to one high-achieving student at each school in Barrie and Innisfil who has demonstrated a commitment to community service and leadership and are planning to attend a Canadian university or college.

MP Brassard or a representative from his constituency office will be attending graduation ceremonies to present the scholarships at Maple Ridge Secondary School, Romeo D’Allaire, St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School, Innisdale Secondary School, St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School, and Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie, and Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil.

"Attending graduation ceremonies is always a highlight of the year for me," Brassard said. "It's incredibly rewarding to see the enthusiasm and dedication of these young graduates, and Liane and I are honoured to support their academic journeys. “It's our way of giving back and nurturing the talents of those who will drive positive change."
