Discover the creative people, projects and spaces that make our community extraordinary with a celebration of the maker spirit.

The Innisfil ideaLAB & Library will be hosting our ninth annual MakerFEST on Saturday, Sept. 16, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lakeshore branch (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) Free to attend, MakerFEST is a community show-and-tell event to highlight local talent and create community connections.

Dive into a world where imagination knows no bounds. From virtual reality to fantasy fairies, bakers to makers, creative minds come together to explore new ideas. Meet like-minded individuals, learn new skills, and be inspired by the incredible projects on display. There’s something for the whole family. Stop by and make a key chain in our HackLAB, green screen photos, coding robots, spin art and so much more. Take a photo with some of your favourite characters including the Super Mario Brothers and Star Wars 501st Legion members.

Don’t miss these highlights of this year’s festival:

DriVR Academy: Are you ready to enter the world of virtual reality? Practise your driving skills with DriVR Academy using a full steering wheel and pedal in this VR-based driver-training simulator without ever leaving the library.

MacLaren Art Centre: Make a thaumatrope with our regional public art gallery. Discover a delightful DIY project that combines art and science, as you craft a mesmerizing optical illusion with a simple spinning disc.

The Drawing House: Do you want to learn more about digital drawing and sketching? Are you passionate about anime and manga? Join Neil Smith from the Drawing House as he creates digital drawings. Neil is known for creating character-themed pieces based in fiction.

Be Part of Ice Hut Art: Watch art come to life with the Community Ice Hut. For months, community members have been painting wooden fish. During MakerFEST these fish will decorate an ice fishing hut; the community art will be on display all winter long.

Savoury Treats and Sweets: Get a taste of technology as full colour images are printed directly onto the surface of delicious cookies using an edible ink printer. Make sure to spin our prize wheel when you visit for a chance to win a free cookie.

This event has something for all ages to inspire the next generation of creative makers and crafters. For more information on the Innisfil MakerFEST please visit www.innisfilidealab.ca/makerfest23 or contact us at 705-431-7410.
