NEWS RELEASE
DOWNTOWN BARRIE BIA
*************************
The Downtown Barrie BIA is thrilled to announce the kickoff of Open Air Dunlop and the start of our summer season in downtown Barrie on June 4.
What began as a recovery measure during the pandemic for downtown Barrie businesses has become one of Barrie’s favourite outings to do on a Saturday.
Last year, the Downtown Barrie BIA hosted 18 Open Air Dunlops. Our plan for 2022 is 20 Open Air Saturdays. Each Saturday, from June to the end of September, Dunlop Street from Mulcaster Street to Maple Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic and open for the public to check out the downtown’s newly constructed streetscape, visit a local patio or shop, and discover the art and historical self-guided tours. We are also excited to include three Saturdays throughout October and November.
Festivities kick off this Saturday at 9 a.m. in Meridian Place with a Kids’ Roll and Stroll Parade led by the Barrie police community. Bring your bike, trike, scooter, skateboard, unicycle, wagon or other people-powered wheeled device or join on foot and walk along. Stick around as we have James Gray (jamesgraymusic.ca) performing at 2 p.m. in Meridian Place.
Throughout the summer months, the Downtown Barrie BIA will also showcase local community groups, local artists and entertainers, live music, public art activations and, of course, the one-of-a-kind shops and over 25 patios.
Downtown Barrie during Open Air Dunlop is sure to be a destination.
