Richard Bullis, a longtime resident of Barrie recently completed a passion project. No stranger to the creative process as a musician and songwriter, he decided to take his love for the English language in a different direction and is releasing his first novel, A Blood Moon Between Friends, on July 6.

The novel is the fictional account of a young man – John Bradley – growing up in Toronto. Bradley’s life is guided by a code that sees him both prosper in friendships, family and love but also leads him to make one wrong decision that changes everything and tests his mettle as a man.

A Blood Moon Between Friends is also a love story. The traditional boy-meets-girl one, and the author’s love affair with Vancouver Island, one of his favourite places to visit.

Bullis said the day he started typing he only had a small part of the story in mind.

“What became exciting was seeing my imagination come alive resulting in additional scenarios and relationships between the characters,” he said. “Realizing I may have an actual novel in the works drove me to the finish line. Now I hope people will enjoy the read as much as I enjoyed writing it.”

Judging by the positive reviews from a curated group of avid readers, Bullis’ novel has met this goal.

A public book launch will be held in Barrie at Chasing New York, an exciting new menswear retailer located at 150 Dunlop St. E. on July 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. The novel will be available for $20 (cash preferred).

Bullis is available for guest-speaking engagements with Creative English classes, service clubs, bookstores and libraries. He also encouraged others, who think they have a story in them to get it out.

“The imagination is an amazing part of our mind and there’s no telling what might reveal itself once you start down a creative path,” said Bullis. “I started writing this story 13 years ago. It’s a proud moment for me now to release it to the public.”
