Ever wondered what was behind the doors of buildings not normally accessible to the public?

Well, this weekend's Doors Open event in Barrie could be your chance.

The event runs Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and will offer a chance to peek inside heritage buildings and museums, as well as explore city facilities and military parks.

The nine in-person sites include Barrie Fire headquarters on Dunlop Street West, the Barrie-Simcoe Emergency Services Campus on Fairview Road, the Barrie-South Simcoe Metis Council offices on Cedar Pointe Drive, and the Bliss2Ann Green Yoga and UPlift Black heritage building on Dunlop Street East.

Also included on the tour are the General Hayter Southshore Centre and Heritage Military Park on Lakeshore Drive, the Grey and Simcoe Foresters Regimental Museum on Mulcaster Street, J'adore Fine Cheese and Chocolate on Dunlop Street East, Rogers TV Barrie on Sperling Drive, and Wedge Studio on Lakeshore Mews.

There are also two "digital" stops on the tour, including the Grand Hotel Walking Tour and the Historic Neighbourhood Guide.

Organizers say Doors Open, hosted by the Ontario Heritage Trust, is an opportunity to learn more about what makes Barrie such a "unique community."
