Barrie-Innisfil Member of Parliament John Brassard and Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte MP Doug Shipley joined local veterans, members of the Royal Canadian Legion and elected officials Friday to launch the 2023 Central Ontario Poppy Campaign at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 147 in Barrie.
“The annual Poppy Launch is not just a ceremonial occasion; it is a powerful testament to our unwavering commitment to our veterans and their families,” Brassard said. “The poppy symbolizes remembrance, gratitude and solidarity and the annual campaign is an important opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices made by our brave veterans.
“I am always deeply honoured and proud to stand with our veterans, and to recognize the tremendous work carried out by volunteers at legions in Barrie-Innisfil and across Canada. Their dedication to the well-being of veterans and the broader community is truly remarkable.”
Donation boxes are now available at locations in Barrie-Innisfil and across the country where people can donate cash and receive a poppy. Canadians can also donate at mypoppy.ca and create a digital poppy.
“I encourage each and every one of you to make a donation and proudly wear a poppy as a symbol of your support for our veterans and their families and to take a moment to say hello to a veteran and express your gratitude for their service,” Brassard said. “It’s a small act that carries immense significance, as we acknowledge their role in upholding freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and human rights, not just within our borders, but around the world.”
The Poppy Campaign continues until Remembrance Day, November 11
