Beginning tonight and on display until March 20, there will be five selected projection-based art installations in downtown Barrie as part of the city’s Hello Winter event.
“This year, Hello Winter’s theme focuses on light, and along with our other programming, we’re inviting residents and visitors to explore downtown Barrie and enjoy the unique, projected art that will light up city nights,” says Steve Lee-Young, manager of recreation and culture programs.
The Projection Program was supported by the Barrie Public Art Committee, and features artists from across Canada, who were invited to submit video or animated artworks that responded to the theme of light. The artists selected were Jane Austin, Gita Hashemi, Hua Jin, Annette Mangaard and Alison Postma.
The projections – intended to be enjoyed outdoors – are presented around the downtown, including at the Barrie Public Library, City Hall, MacLaren Art Centre, and Five Points Theatre. Visitors can view the online map for more information about the featured artists, their selected work, and locations.
In addition to the projected art installations, downtown Barrie is also currently hosting Chimes, an interactive art display that fills Meridian Place with a symphony of sound and light resulting from movement of the chimes – whether by wind or human interaction. Chimes is on display until March 20.
