With numerous fundraising events organized every year, the residents of Sandycove Acres in Innisfil are determined to make a difference.

By selling tickets and organizing a Share the Wealth draw and raffle, this year’s Sandycove Acres' Canada Day Dance Committee raised $2,000. The committee was proud to donate the funds to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Foundation’s Keep Life Wild campaign, which will fund the construction of the RVH South Campus in Innisfil.

“The Sandycove Acres Canada Day Dance Committee decided that the proceeds from the dance would be donated to RVH Innisfil campus because we are a community of seniors and although it may not be built in time for us to take advantage of having a hospital in our own town, people in the future will,” Marilyn Sehn said. “(We’re) hoping that more people from Innisfil will consider doing some fundraising events and donating their proceeds to the Innisfil campus.”

Sehn explained that the Sandycove Acres Canada Day Dance Committee hoped that their donation would bring attention to the RVH Foundation's Keep Life Wild campaign. “The fundraising for ‘our’ hospital has begun, and (we) will need lots of donations, (no) matter the amount. Every little bit helps,” Sehn said.

On Thursday, August 3, 2023, the RVH Foundation thanked the committee on its Facebook page. “#ThankfulThursday: We are absolutely jazzed about this gift from the Sandycove Acres Canada Day Dance Committee. Members of the retirement community came together, put on their dancing shoes and hosted a Canada Day dance fundraiser – raising $2,000 in support of the Keep Life Wild campaign and the Innisfil healthcare site expansion.”
