TOWN OF INNISFIL

The Town of Innisfil is hosting an open house to share the updated design for the urbanization of Killarney Beach Road on Nov. 14 at the Morgan Russell Memorial Arena & Community Centre in Lefroy.

Community members are invited to drop in between 7 and 8:30 p.m. to explore the design changes, ask questions, and provide feedback.

“We’re hosting this open house to ensure that community feedback is at the heart of our planning process,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “The design changes for this project were directly influenced by what residents shared with us, and we want to continue that dialogue as we move forward. It’s important that our infrastructure reflects the needs and desires of our community.”

During the open house, attendees will be able to review the updated design documents, including specific plans for properties within the project area. The proposed improvements span Killarney Beach Road from 20th Sideroad to Ewart Street, and Pine Avenue from Killarney Beach Road to approximately 400 metres south.

Key features of the updated design include:

  • A single multi-use path on the north side of the street
  • Full curbs and storm sewers to replace soft shoulders and ditches
  • Curb extensions to define on-street parking areas
  • Improved lighting throughout the area
  • Three new pedestrian crossovers for enhanced safety
  • A gateway feature to welcome visitors
  • A hardscaped boulevard section at the Carson Avenue intersection to support local business parking and create clear boundaries between the street and pathway

The urbanization project is a step towards creating a more effective and community-focused roadway, balancing the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. The design was guided by Innisfil’s 2018 transportation master plan, 2018 sidewalk needs study, and 2016 trails master plan. The town is working with Morrison Hershfield for the design, and prior roadwork on the section from Ewart Street to Barry Avenue has already been completed.

Construction of the remaining sections of roadway is expected to begin in spring 2025.

For those unable to attend the open house on Nov. 14, the project team welcomes comments and questions. Feedback can be submitted through the project web page at getinvolvedinnisfil.ca/killarney.
