Looking derelict, with torn netting and ungroomed courts, the sand volleyball facility at the Innisfil Recreation Complex awaits repair.

The Sand Volleyball courts at the Innisfil Recreation Complex will be undergoing repairs, before they reopen for the 2021/2022 season.

Constructed in 2014, the courts were originally managed and operated through an agreement with Liberty Hospitality Corporation and Outtahand Inc., collectively known as SandZone.

That agreement expired in 2020, at which time it was determined that the Town of Innisfil’s Leisure Services would take over programming and rentals of the four sand volleyball courts.

The amenities were found to be in serious need of repairs. The courts were uneven, unsafe, and fencing was torn.

A total of $22,000 has been budgeted, to improve the court surface materials, replace posts and fencing, and replace the damaged volleyball nets.

A report to council on Wednesday night presented a proposed rental fee schedule for the courts, once they reopen - possibly later this summer. Fees would be in line with the rental costs of other non-lighted fields, including ball diamonds and soccer fields  - $16.22 per hour for Resident Youth, and $21.09 per hour for Resident Adults.

Non-residents would pay $19.47 per hour for Youth, $25.31 per hour for Adults.

The fees are seen as potentially generating up to $10,000 per year,  once the courts reopen.

Council approved the proposed fee schedule. Mayor Lynn Dollin requested a review at the end of the year, comparing revenues and costs, to determine if Sand Volleyball in Innisfil was “revenue positive.”
