The Barrie Baycats will take on the London Majors in the second round of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) playoffs.
On Tuesday night, the third-seeded Majors eliminated the Hamilton Cardinals with a 4-1 win in the best-of-five series.
London's Eduardo De Oleo went 3-for-4 with two-run home run, while Cleveland Brownlee and Tristan Osika drove in the other runs. Victor Plaz and Ty Mosher had two hits apiece.
Victor Payano (2-0) struck out 13 batters over six innings to earn the win for the Majors. He gave up a run on five hits and a walk.
Daniel Gore finished the game for the three-inning save, after striking out three and only allowing two baserunners.
Stephen Whalen drove in Hamilton’s lone run. Luis Bernardo singled, doubled and stole a base, and Keelor Loveridge went 2-for-3.
Takaki Eguchi (0-2) gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits over 4.2 innings to take the loss. He walked one and fanned four.
The Baycats advanced to the IBL semifinals after sweeping the seventh-seed Toronto Maple Leafs.
In other IBL playoff action Tuesday night, the defending-champion Welland Jackfish advanced to the second round with an 11-5 road win over the Kitchener Panthers.
After dropping the first game of the series, the Jackfish won the next three and will face Guelph in the other semifinal.
