A family escaped unharmed from a fire at their home on Previn Court in Alliston on Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported, and police said the fire is 'non-suspicious'.

A family is safe after they escaped a large house fire in Alliston on Monday afternoon, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

New Tecumseth Fire Rescue received the call at 1:18 p.m. on Dec. 16 and responded to the blaze on Previn Court.

Police said a mother and an infant were both inside the home at the time of the fire and were able to safely exit due to working alarms.

“Both individuals were assessed for smoke inhalation and cleared with no injuries,” an official said.

The roadway in the area was closed for several hours for the investigation into the cause of the fire.

At approximately 6 p.m. the street was re-opened, and all fire crews have cleared the area, according to police.

Police said the fire has been deemed “non-suspicious” at this time.

"The fire did not spread to the near by residences and was put out several hours later," Nottawasaga OPP said in a media release issued Tuesday morning. "The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but appeared to have come from the children's game room in the basement."

Police added the family will be staying with relatives due to their home’s fire damage.
