The South Simcoe Police Service has charged a Bradford man with impaired driving related offences following a fatal collision in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
On Saturday, July 16, 2022, at approximately 12:20 a.m., police responded to a report of a motorcyclist struck by two vehicles on Holland Street East and Barrie Street. Once on scene, police determined the motorcyclist was rear-ended by the first vehicle then struck by a second vehicle while travelling eastbound on Holland Street. The first vehicle mounted a curb and crashed into a building severing a gas line in the process. The driver fled on foot. The K9 Unit attended and arrested the driver a short distance from the collision. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and has cooperated with police. The motorcyclist, a 32-year-old Bradford man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Holland Street was closed from Toronto Street to Barrie Street for 10 hours while Traffic Unit officers conducted a collision reconstruction investigation.
As a result of the investigation, 29-year-old Johnathon Harrington of Bradford has been charged with the following offences:
- Impaired driving causing death
- Dangerous operation causing death
- Fail to remain at the scene of an accident
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Holland Street remains closed for gas line repairs.
Both speed and alcohol are factors in this collision. Police believe there are several witnesses along Holland Street that may have witnesses the involved vehicle and motorcycle prior to the collision. Police are appealing to anyone with information and security or dash camera footage to contact Constable Kernen of the Traffic Unit at 905-775-3311 extension #1408, by email or contact Crime Stoppers.
