Barrie police say they corralled a sneaky drunk driver trying to evade a RIDE check set up in the city's north end Friday night.
On Jan. 17, just after 9:30 p.m., while officers were conducting a RIDE program on Cundles Road West, east of Anne Street North, police say a westbound vehicle, which was approaching the spotcheck, made an "abrupt U-turn" and drove into the parking lot of a nearby plaza.
After witnessing the sudden manoeuvre, police say officers were able to locate the vehicle.
While in conversation with the 35-year-old female driver, police say officers observed obvious signs of impairment.
Police said the woman was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to police headquarters on Fairview Road where the investigation continued.
The woman has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration over 80 mg). She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie later this month.
Police said the vehicle she was driving has been impounded for seven days and her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days under the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.
