A pedestrian was injured and taken to hospital after being struck by a motorcycle in Barrie's south end last night.

On Thursday at 9:46 p.m., police say officers responded to a collision involving a 62-year-old man and a motorcycle on Mapleview Drive East, east of Prince William Way.

Police said investigators from the traffic unit determined the pedestrian, who was crossing the road at an "uncontrolled location" east of the intersection, was struck by a westbound motorcycle.

A second motorcycle that was involved in the incident, and was following the motorcycle which had struck the man, is believed to have made contact with the first motorcycle after the initial collision, according to police.

The man sustained what were initially believed to be serious injuries, but after being treated at a local hospital, police say the severity of the injuries was downgraded.

The investigation is ongoing.

Any witnesses or anyone with dash-camera video of two motorcycles travelling on Mapleview Drive East is asked to contact the investigating officer by email at [email protected].
