One person has died following an early morning three-vehicle crash in Springwater Township Wednesday.
The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the fatal collision that took place on Penetanguishene Road just north of Barrie.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, police — with assistance from Springwater Fire and Simcoe County EMS — responded to a report of a serious collision involving three vehicles on Penetanguishene Road (Highway 93).
The 46-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was confirmed deceased at the scene by paramedics, while a 25-year-old driver of a second vehicle was taken by ambulance to local hospital “as a precaution" with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police officials.
The driver of the third vehicle was assessed and treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics, and then released.
A section of Penetanguishene Road (Highway 93) between Highway 400 and Flos Road 4 East was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene. The road has since been reopened.
The investigation is ongoing, and OPP is requesting anyone was in the area at time of the crash who thinks they may have any information, dash cam or surveillance footage that may assist investigators, to please call Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
