A Barrie man who was prohibited from driving was charged by South Simcoe Police Service after he drove and parked near a police station where he provided fingerprints.

Police say on Wednesday, a 34-year-old accused Barrie man attended South Division on foot from the nearby Sobeys grocery store.

Police say the accused was recognized by another officer as a criminally prohibited driver.

Suspecting he drove to Bradford, officers followed the man on foot to the Sobeys after his fingerprinting was completed.

Officers observed the accused opening the front door of an SUV, which was found to be registered to the accused's company, South Simcoe police said in a news release.

While police were checking Sobeys' exterior security cameras, the accused left the immediate area on foot, police say.

Officers confirmed the accused drove the same vehicle into the Sobeys parking lot, where it was still parked.

Police searched the area and located the accused nearby.

As a result of an investigation, the SUV was seized for 45 days and the accused was charged with:

  • Operate conveyance while prohibited (two counts)
  • Breach of probation
  • Drive no licence
  • Fail to drive motor vehicle with ignition interlock device.
