Police are looking for witnesses as they investigate last week’s shooting in Innisfil that left one person dead and another seriously injured.
On Aug. 15 at about 2:40 p.m., South Simcoe police responded to an altercation at a residence on Shoreview Drive between Whitecap Drive and Dalkab Crescent. Police described it as a “violent incident” involving two 19-year-old men.
“Upon arrival, there was an altercation between officers and two subjects,” South Simcoe police said. “As a result, both subjects suffered serious and life-threatening injuries.”
One of the men was taken to a Barrie hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other was taken to a Toronto hospital, where he remained as of Aug. 20.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and is investigating South Simcoe police’s involvement in the incident. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is conducting a separate investigation.
OPP is asking anyone with information, including surveillance, dash cam, or cellphone footage taken in the area between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., to call police at 1-888-310-1122. Information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
