It was 1975 when the South Innisfil Community Centre, also known as the Lefroy Arena, officially opened its doors.
Opening day was on a Saturday at 8 a.m., filled with activities and games.
Entertainment started with Intro Hockey Association races and figure skating, followed by bingo, square dancing, and a broomball game between Lefroy firemen and arena council. There were skits, moccasin dancing and skating as well.
Free coffee and donuts were served by local Girl Guides and Brownies. The Innisfil Lions Club clowns entertained the crowds.
There was a cake-cutting ceremony, which included a plaque presentation featuring the names of the first five members of the arena board, who started the project: Judy Atkinson, Gordon Young, Stewart Donnelly, Ian Johnston, and Ted Corner.
The Wapiti Indsutries' annual Sportsman of the Year trophy was awarded to Ron Price, past-coordinator of the Intro Hockey Association.
Reeve Bill Gibbins was in attendance as well as councillors Bill Tipple, Blake Constable, Grant Andrade and former reeve George Burton.
The custodian Ted Bly was given a transistor radio.
The festivities concluded with an evening dance in the banquet hall.
