Public Health Ontario reported its lowest number of new COVID-19 cases so far this month with 111 cases confirmed today.
The province reported 112 new cases on July 7, and 111 new cases on June 26, but before that, the number of daily cases hasn't been at or below 111 since late March at the start of the pandemic.
Ontario's public health agency confirmed one more death related to the coronavirus today – an individual between the ages of 60 and 79.
Of today's 111 new cases, 52 of them are individuals between the ages of 20 and 39 years old, another 30 are individuals between the ages of 40 and 59 years old, 15 are between the ages of 60 and 79 years old, and 14 are 19 years old and under. There were no cases reported today in people aged 80 or over.
Peel Public Health reported the highest number of new cases of any other health unit in the province with 38 reported today and yesterday. York Region followed with 17 new cases and Toronto Public Health was the third highest with 14 cases reported. Peel, York, and Toronto health units will remain in Stage 2 of the provincial reopening plan along with seven other health units while the rest of the province enters Stage 3 on Friday.
Ontario has now processed 1,729,059 COVID-19 tests, with 16,744 tests completed since the last report. Lab testing has confirmed a total of 36,950 cases of the coronavirus in Ontario since the start of the pandemic with 88.7 per cent of those (32,785) now reported recovered. There have been 2,723 deaths reported.
Public Health Ontario reports there are currently 38 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 15 at retirement homes, and five at hospitals.
There are now 1,442 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 137 hospitalizations with 30 patients in intensive care and 21 patients on ventilators at Ontario hospitals.
The average incidence rate for the province is 248.6 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the population.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 613 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 582 of those reported in Simcoe County.
Thirty-six people have died and the health unit has reported 556 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 103.1 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
There are 19 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including three people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 13 epidemiological report.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will enter Stage 3 of the province's reopening plan on Friday.
