New COVID-19 cases in the province are down slightly today compared to weekend totals.
Public Health Ontario reported 135 new lab-confirmed cases of the virus today (July 20) based on test results reported by health units as of yesterday.
Today's report also notes 106 new recoveries and one death – an individual between 60 and 79 years old.
Of the 37,739 total COVID-19 cases reported by Public Health Ontario, 33,513 – or 88.8 per cent – are reported recovered, and 2,752 people have died (7.3 per cent).
There are 1,474 active cases of the coronavirus in Ontario, including 115 people hospitalized. There are 37 patients in intensive care with COVID-19 and 24 patients on ventilators in hospitals throughout the province.
The trend in ages infected continues with 52 of today's reported cases confirmed in individuals between 20 and 39 years old, and 43 cases reported in individuals between 40 and 59 years old. There were another 23 cases reported in people aged 19 and under, and 16 cases in individuals between 60 and 79. The province reported zero new cases in people aged 80 and over.
The highest case reports continue to come from health units that have not yet moved into Stage 3 of the province's reopening plan. Peel Public Health reported 35 new cases, Toronto reported 26 new cases, and Windsor-Essec reported 21 new cases. Ottawa Public Health reported 20 new cases, and the remaining 30 health units in the province reported between zero and seven new cases.
Since yesterday's update, Public Health Ontario reported there have been 20,913 tests processed.
The per cent positivity rate, which is number of positive cases compared to the number of tests completed, is below one per cent. In early April, the per cent positivity rate was nearing 10 per cent. At that time, fewer tests were being processed and more cases were being reported each day.
The cumulative incidence rate for Ontario is 253.9 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 628 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 597 of those reported in Simcoe County. Based on the provincial epidemiological report today, there have been 639 total cases reported in Simcoe-Muskoka. The health unit will post an update on local cases later today.
On Friday, the health unit posted its largest increase this month with nine new cases, eight of which were Barrie residents.
Thirty-six people have died in Simcoe County and Muskoka and the health unit has reported 561 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 105.6 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
There are 30 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including three people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 17 epidemiological report.
