Santa Claus arrives in Bradford Saturday night.

To quote Buddy the Elf: “Santa! Oh, my god! Santa's coming! I know him!”

Yes, ‘tis the time for that jolly man in red to return to Bradford West Gwillimbury. But that’s hardly it for this weekend’s calendar. From a health fair to a sombre reflection on the history of antisemitism, there’s a lot to see, do and think about in the coming days.

Here’s what’s happening in Bradford and Innisfil on Saturday and Sunday:

Celebrate the Innisfil YMCA branch’s birthday

Join Y staff on Saturday, Nov. 16 for a pancake breakfast to help celebrate the 16th anniversary of the site (7315 Yonge St.). Indulge in delicious pancakes topped with butter and maple syrup, and enjoy fresh bananas and oranges on the side. Plus, there will be colouring activities for the kids. Everyone is welcome to attend. The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon.

Health and information fair

The Northern York South Simcoe Ontario Health Team is hosting a community health and information fair Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the BWG Leisure Centre (471 West Park Ave). It will include more than 25 service providers ranging from CHATS to the Canadian Mental Health Association. The event is free. Registration is not required, but it is encouraged through the Eventbrite page. For more, visit nyssoht.ca.

Santa Claus is coming to town

Bradford’s annual Santa Claus parade brings together local businesses, service groups, clubs and entertainers, attracting thousands of people per year. This parade will be held under the stars Saturday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It features numerous floats and begins at Bradford District High School on Professor Day Drive, travelling east on Holland Street and then south on Simcoe Road to the Bradford and District Memorial Community Centre (125 Simcoe Rd.). Further details can be found at townofbwg.com

Fostering allyship to combat hatred

Join Emily Bonnell and Zach Sadowski from the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, a non-profit human-rights organization dedicated to Holocaust education and antisemitism programs, on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This event will emphasize the importance of battling this evolving form of hatred and it takes place at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library (425 Holland St. W.). The discussion will provide a detailed perspective on the Canadian Jewish experience, examining the historical roots of antisemitism and its relevance within the broader context of hate.
