The Innisfil Seed Library, in partnership with the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library and Innisfil Garden Club, is thrilled to be hosting its sixth annual Innisfil Seedy Saturday in-person event on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library, Lakeshore branch, 967 Innisfil Beach Rd.
Admission is free, and food donations to the Troy Scott Community Fridges are appreciated.
Seedy Saturdays are a phenomenon held all over Ontario and across the country, and we are proud to continue hosting this popular spring event in our bustling community. These events bring together both new and seasoned gardeners, seed savers and community members passionate about mindful gardening, food security and our environment.
Not to be missed this year: Special guest speaker Lorraine Johnson, acclaimed author and native plant expert, presents Native Plants for Beauty and Biodiversity, plus a chance to win a copy of her new book co-authored with Sheila Colla, A Garden for the Rusty-Patched Bumblebee: Creating Habitat for Native Pollinators. Plus, learn about community food security and wild food foraging; and ask a local master gardener your burning gardening questions. Bring your kids to the craft area and hackLAB pop-up offering a variety of garden-themed activities. Get seeds for purchase and free of charge from exhibitors including the Innisfil Seed Library, reopening for its eighth season. Buy a bird feeder, organic soil amendments, mushroom growing kits, handcrafted natural body products and so much more.
“We are so excited to gather in person again after two years of virtual events,” says Bridget Indelicato, event organizer and founder of the Innisfil Seed Library. “You’ll find over 15 familiar local and Ontario-based vendors and discover new ones, too. There’s also plenty of free activities for the whole family including expert talks, children’s crafts and hackLAB projects. Join us to inspire your at-home gardening experience in an ecological way.”
Schedule of presentations:
11 a.m. to 12 p.m: Native Plants for Beauty and Biodiversity with Lorraine Johnson, author
12 to 1 p.m: Save Money by Going Wild with Karen Stephenson, Edible Wild Food
1 to 2 p.m.: Community Food Security with Gurneet Dhami, health associate, Town of Innisfil
