Since 1995, Canadians have celebrated Black History Month thanks to the Hon. Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament. Despite having a presence long before Confederation, Black Canadians are often left out of history books, and their culture, stories and endless achievements remain unrecognized.
