Matthews House Hospice (MHH) Foundation is continually amazed by the generous support of our community.

As a result of the dedicated community support and despite the postal strike, we raised over $335,000 throughout December and January for our annual Holiday Giving campaign. This year, the holiday campaign highlighted the impact that our hospice residence makes in the lives of our residents and their families.

With 10 residential hospice beds, MHH is honoured to provide residents with compassionate care and support in a comforting home-like environment as they navigate through their journey of a life-limiting illness or end of life. We value our opportunity to be there for our residents, their caregivers, families, and friends when they need us. It is because of the generous commitment of the community that we are able to walk alongside our residents and families on their journey.

“Being at Matthews House Hospice gave me the gift of having my mom cared for, allowing me to just spend time with her. She was spoiled by everyone there; they all knew how to make her specific breakfast, which was really the only thing she enjoyed eating, and also that Loretta wanted her tea in a china teacup,” shares Michelle, resident Loretta’s daughter.

The postal strike delayed delivery of over 6,500 appeal letters. Traditionally, the letters are the main source of support for the campaign. In an effort to expand the campaign, the team explored new ways to reach our community. Thank you to our many volunteers who hand addressed all 6,500 letters and to those who hand delivered letters during the delay. We sincerely thank our donors who, despite the postal strike, found ways to give the gift of compassionate care this holiday season.

“Thank you to everyone who kindly included Matthews House in their giving plans this holiday season even with the challenges of the postal strike. We value the dedicated support our community showed in supporting compassionate hospice care,” says Margaret Bachle, chief executive officer.

Matthews House Hospice walks together with individuals and families through the journey of illness and grief and bereavement by providing hospice and community services to all in south Simcoe County, including New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Essa, Innisfil and surrounding communities. As a leader in quality hospice care and support services, Matthews House helps our community live life fully and die with dignity.
