There are approximately 555 patients in intensive care units across Ontario who are or were positive for COVID, according to the latest report by the province posted Feb. 2.
Of those in ICUs, 84 per cent (about 458 people) were admitted primarily because of COVID-related illness. The remainder of the ICU patients did test positive for COVID-19 but were admitted for something else.
Today's update also includes 67 deaths and 3,909 new cases.
New case counts no longer reflect COVID-19 transmission in the province as testing is reserved nearly exclusively for hospitalized patients, and residents and staff at high-risk congregate settings.
