Back-to-school fashion shows this weekend will turn back the clock to highlight 50 years of style in celebration of Upper Canada Mall’s 50th birthday.

The Newmarket mall has teamed up with event designer Rebecca Chan to launch the 50 Years of Back-to-School Style fashion show Aug. 24 and 25 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

“Upper Canada Mall has always been Newmarket’s primary destination for back-to-school shopping and this year we are excited to celebrate the looks that have captivated the community since our opening,” said Ryan Da Silva, general manager and director of Upper Canada Mall, in a news release. “We want this fashion show to inspire a new generation of shoppers who might be inspired to bring some retro style back to the classroom.”

The fashion shows start at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. each day in Centre Court near Dollarama. There will be a live DJ and giveaways for Jibbitz and popsicles.

Children from organizations, including Easter Seals, Girls Inc. York Region, Marquee Theatrical Productions, and Community Living Central York, will be modelling the looks. Staff from MAC Cosmetics will provide makeup for the show and offer make-up tutorials each day.

Representatives from the mall’s community partners will be on-site to provide guests with more information about their organizations, alongside the Newmarket Public Library, which will issue library cards and host activities in between the shows.
