Location was temporarily shuttered for repairs months ago

This Beer Store location on Innisfil Beach Road is currently closed for repairs.

You could say the timeline is a bit hazy.

A spokesperson for the Beer Store says there’s still no clear reopening date set for the company’s Alcona location at 945 Innisfil Beach Rd., which was temporarily shuttered for repairs months ago.

“It's a work in progress,” Beer Store representative Jim Warren said. “We are trying to get it open ASAP.”

The update comes in a week where the Ontario government is significantly increasing the availability of alcohol across the province. Beginning today, about 4,000 licensed convenience stores are permitted to sell beer, cider, wine and ready-to-drink beverages.

This week's move will be followed on Oct. 31 by licensed grocery and big-box stores being allowed to sell beer, cider, wine, ready-to-drink beverages and large-pack sizes.

Over time, the government says, alcohol sales will be allowed in up to 8,500 new stores. This represents the largest expansion of consumer choice and convenience since the end of prohibition almost a century ago.

Customers loyal to the Beer Store brand can still shop at its Stroud (7947 Yonge St.) location.

An interactive map of retailers who sell booze is available at ontario.ca. But you may want to confirm store hours before heading out, given the Alcona Beer Store is still listed as being open.
