Barrie police were called Monday evening about a homeless man standing in the middle of Big Bay Point Road, yelling at people as they drove by in the city’s south end.
On Feb. 10, at approximately 5 p.m., police say officers responded to a report of a man "acting oddly” and disturbing patrons at a plaza located near Yonge Street and Big Bay Point Road.
Officers located the man and advised him that his behaviour was not appreciated or acceptable, and he "agreeably moved along," according to police.
A short time later, police say they received a second call after a concerned citizen reported the same man was now "dangerously" standing in the middle of Big Bay Point Road, yelling at people as they drove by.
Police again responded to the area and located the man at a nearby store where he was taken into custody without incident for breaching the peace.
Police said they were able to confirm availability at a nearby 24-hour warming centre, and transported the 35-year-old man, of no fixed address, to the centre where he was released unconditionally.
Barrie police said they wish to thank the concerned citizens who notified them about the man last night and “are pleased to advise that no further calls were received for him, once he had a warm place to spend the night.”
