A single-vehicle crash in Adjala-Tororontio Township last night has led to charges against an Innisfil man.
Nottawasaga OPP responded to the incident on 20 Sideroad shortly after 9:30 p.m. on March 2. They say that, upon arrival, officers located a single pickup truck facing eastbound with its passenger-side tires in the ditch.
During the investigation, police began to suspect the driver had been under the influence of alcohol and as a result, issued an approved screening device demand. Subsequently, the driver provided a sample which resulted in a ‘fail’.
At 10 p.m., the driver, a 29-year-old Innisfil resident, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration of 80-plus), operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.
In addition, the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford at a later date to answer to the charges.
“OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” police said in a media release issued March 3. “Report impaired drivers.”
Anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver is asked to dial 911 or contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. They can also provide information anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-822-8477 or crimestopperssdm.com.
