South Simcoe police are issuing a reminder after they caught two uninsured drivers on local roadways over the weekend.
And one of those motorists was actually stopped twice within 24 hours.
On Feb. 15 at about 2:30 p.m., police conducted a vehicle stop involving a white Mazda on Reagens Industrial Parkway in Bradford West Gwillimbury. They apparently determined the driver, a 23-year-old Innisfil man, didn’t have insurance.
Then the next day, at about 11 a.m., the same person was allegedly involved in a crash. No serious injuries were reported.
He was found, once again, to be without insurance, police say.
The suspect now faces two counts of driving without insurance, along with several other driving-related charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 16.
Then in a separate incident Sunday at about 1:20 p.m., police conducted a vehicle stop involving a white Volkswagen Jetta on Holland Street East in Bradford. Police determined that driver, a 25-year-old Bradford man, did not have a licence or insurance.
He is also alleged to have been charged by Barrie police on Jan. 29 for related offences.
As a result of an investigation, the vehicle he was driving was removed from the road. The man was also charged with multiple offences including a second count in three weeks of operating a motor vehicle without insurance or a licence.
“Police are reminding all drivers of the importance of proper insurance,” the department said in a Feb. 18 post on social media. “Driving without insurance carries a minimum fine of ($5,000).”
