A 33-year-old man from King Township wanted for attempted murder following a New Year's Day shooting at a motel just east of Bradford West Gwillimbury has been located and arrested by York Regional Police (YRP).
Andrew Joseph Pitre is charged with the following, according to a YRP news release:
- Attempted murder
- Discharging firearm with intent
- Careless use of a firearm
- Aggravated assault
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a restricted firearm
- Point firearm
- Unlicensed person possess prohibited/restricted weapon
- Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing
- Unlawfully possess substance
- Fail to attend court
Pitre was arrested without incident in a parking lot in Georgina Jan. 15, police said.
A 24-year-old man received non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting, which happened in the area of Highway 11 and Canal Road at about 9:45 p.m. Jan. 1, police said. The suspect was not located at the time.
A search warrant was executed in a motel room where a large quantity of cannabis and other drugs were seized, police added.
On Jan. 3, an arrest warrant was issued for Pitre. At the time of the investigation, he was wanted on a bench warrant for failing to attend court for previous unrelated charges.
