Two men from the Midland area have been charged after Barrie police say they forced their way into a south-end home, attacked the owner and stole his PlayStation on Tuesday night.

City police were called shortly 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 about a break-in that had just taken place on Madelaine Drive, near Mapleview Drive East.

When police arrived, officers were told three men had forcibly entered the residence through a patio door and proceeded to assault the homeowner. They took the gaming system and tossed it into the trunk of a waiting vehicle.

The man was not injured in the fisticuffs, according to police.

Police say a neighbour intervened and the suspects fled on foot. They were last seen running to a car that was parked and waiting for them nearby.

The victim provided information to investigators, including descriptions of the suspects involved. Police were also given a description of the vehicle.

At 10:55 p.m., the suspect vehicle was seen travelling on Essa Road and a traffic stop was conducted.

Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon told BradfordToday and InnisfilToday that not only did the vehicle match the description provided, but the PlayStation's cord was also dangling outside the trunk.

Two men in the vehicle were arrested and transported to police headquarters where the investigation continued.

A 45-year-old Tiny Township man and a 24-year-old Midland man have been charged with several criminal offences, including included break and enter, assault, theft and possession of property obtained by crime.

The 24-year-old man was also charged with obstructing a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon and failure to comply with a probation order.

The 45-year-old man was additionally charged with driving while under suspension.

Both of the accused were held for a bail hearing, which happened Wednesday afternoon by video at the Barrie courthouse. They were remanded into custody where they will remain until a later date.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

The third person involved in the incident has not been identified.
