Two people have been arrested and police continue to search for a man in connection with the death of a Markham woman in August.
On Aug. 9, Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, a Realtor, was reported missing by family after she had not been heard from since 11 a.m. Later that day, her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 SUV was located near Finch and Warden avenues in Toronto.
On Aug. 12, Ontario Provincial Police found burned human remains in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400 in Parry Sound.
On Aug. 21, the Office of the Chief Coroner identified the deceased as Mui.
On Nov. 27, Abid Khugiani was charged in relation to the homicide.
On Dec. 4, police charged Oscar Peidi Liang.
Khugiana, 24, of Oshawa, has been charged with the following:
- Indignity to a human body
- Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
- Fraud under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Trafficking in a credit card (six counts)
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon (two counts)
- Weapons trafficking
Liang, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with the following:
- Manslaughter
- Accessory after the fact to murder
- Forcible confinement
- Kidnapping
- Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (kidnapping)
- Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (forcible confinement)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
A Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder remains in effect for Zhixiong Marko Hu, 57, of Markham.
