An Elmvale woman faces charges after police located two prohibited spring-type knives, 10 cartons of illegal cigarettes, a quantity of illicit drugs and more than one pound of suspected methamphetamine in an early-morning traffic stop in Barrie on Monday.

A 30-year-old Elmvale woman faces a slew of drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop in Barrie on Monday morning.

At 6:23 a.m., an officer was on patrol in the Victoria and John streets area and conducted a traffic stop, according to Barrie police.

Police said the woman was driving while under two driving-related licence suspensions.

She was arrested, and police located two prohibited spring-type knives, 10 cartons of illegal cigarettes, a quantity of illicit drugs and more than one pound of suspected methamphetamine.

The accused was transported to police headquarters on Fairview Road, where she was formally charged and held for a bail hearing.

“This self-initiated traffic stop commenced with a number of Highway Traffic Act offences, (and) very quickly became a weapons- and drug-related criminal investigation (that) concluded with the seizure of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine that was no doubt destined for our streets,” police said.
