Barrie police arrested two suspects Tuesday as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
City police say a “lengthy” drug-trafficking investigation culminated Feb. 25 with the arrest of two men and the execution of several related search warrants in southeast Barrie.
Police say the two men, aged 23 and 31, were arrested without incident by members of the tactical support unit at two different locations. They are facing charges related to cocaine and fentanyl possession and trafficking.
The two locations are east of Yonge Street and Mapleview Drive in south-end Barrie, police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday.
Both men are being held in custody pending bail hearings, which are scheduled for later today, by video, at the Barrie courthouse.
Police say these types of investigations are complex and often require specialized resources and techniques to take suspects into custody.
“Planning, preparation and a measured police response are paramount to ensuring public safety, and these factors were incorporated in both of yesterday’s arrests,” police said in a release.
Police said no further details are available due to the ongoing investigation.
