A 40-year-old Bolton man is facing more than 40 charges after filming himself on his motorcycle speeding as fast as 250 km/h and fleeing from York Regional Police officers.
Police published a video on X, formerly Twitter, detailing the arrest on Thursday, saying he put his life and others at risk for "clout on social media."
Captions in the video read, “I’m feeling [sic] kinda goofy today.” He then speeds past a police cruiser with the caption “Whoopsy. Silly me.” and a laughing face emoji.
Officers pulled the man over at an Esso gas station and questioned where his licence plate was. He fled from police, weaving through vehicles at high speeds.
York Regional Police partnered with Peel Regional Police on Project Splitting Eagle after it became aware of an online social media channel where multiple videos were posted between June and September of a motorcyclist driving dangerously and at high rates of speed with no regard for public safety, according to a Peel Regional Police news release.
Police say the driver allegedly posted multiple videos of himself driving. The videos show him racing a grey motorcycle, weaving between lanes of traffic at high speeds, and reaching speeds of up to 258 km/hr.
Gregory Harrington, 40, of Bolton, is facing 36 charges from York Regional Police and 15 charges from Peel Regional Police for his earlier videos. His driver’s licence was suspended, and his 2014 Yamaha R6 motorcycle was impounded. He was held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
