A Bradford man is facing multiple charges following an alleged case of impaired driving in New Tecumseth Feb. 7.
Nottawasaga OPP says an officer was conducting general patrol in the area of Victoria and Boyne streets in Alliston just after 11:30 p.m., when they observed a passenger vehicle proceeding through the intersection on a red light.
The officer stopped the vehicle for the apparent Highway Traffic Act offence.
“Upon further investigation, the officer could smell an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver at which time the officer issued an Approved Screening Device demand,” police said in a media release issued Feb. 11. “(The driver) subsequently provided a sample which resulted in a ‘Fail’.”
The 28-year-old driver was charged with failing to stop at a red light, and operation while impaired (with a blood-alcohol concentration of 80-plus).
The driver was also issued a 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear and answer the charges at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on March 13.
“The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” police said. “Report impaired drivers.”
